~ Good Reads Synopsis ~

Nemesis is a Diabolic. Created to protect a galactic Senator’s daughter, Sidonia. There’s no one Nemesis wouldn’t kill to keep her safe. But when the power-mad Emperor summons Sidonia to the galactic court as a hostage, there is only one way for Nemesis to protect Sidonia.

She must become her.

Now one of the galaxy’s most dangerous weapons is masquerading in a world of corruption and Nemesis has to hide her true abilities or risk everything. As the Empire begins to fracture and rebellion looms closer, Nemesis learns that there is something stronger than her deadly force: the one thing she’s been told she doesn’t have – humanity. And, amidst all the danger, action and intrigue, her humanity might be the only thing that can save her, Sidonia and the entire Empire…

Ok so I read this about a month ago now, and I’m in college and the book is back home so forgive me for this post because I’m trying. This is also going to be super short.

Secondly, I am so sorry I haven’t posted in a while; college has been crazy busy and I should be studying for a statistics exam right now but…. I will do a life update post soon to let you all know what is going on. Thanks for sticking with me!

*spoilers are crossed out*

Overall, I did really enjoy the book. Towards the middle, and definitely the end, the book was beyond captivating. I don’t believe it was amazing enough to be a 4, but it was so much more than a 3, so I gave it a 3.5. It was a pretty generic form of telling of a sci-fi/fantasy YA novel, and reminded me a lot of Cinder by Marissa Meyer in many ways.

One thing I do like in the book, which is random, is the religion. I’ve read few fantasy books that incorporated some form of religion, such as ACOTAR, but none were as good as this one. ACOTAR’s belief system was just super weird with a cauldron and it just didn’t make a lot of sense. This system is really poetic and kind of beautiful, and actually plays an important role in the story.

I also really liked Nemesis as she developed. In the beginning I sort of hated her and was not impressed. She was stony and it seemed like Kincaid hadn’t put much thought into her creation. I understand it is part of her character to be cold and concise, but I imagined she would be even more intuitive and badass to be honest. She just seemed dull. However, as we got to know her and she got to know herself, I fell in love. She’s so cool and majorly badass. I also enjoyed how her walls were broken down as she experienced living a real life, and the sympathy she started to develop, proving that she too is human and made from the stars.

I love Tyrus. Who didn’t see that coming? I love every male main character, I know. I love his whole plot too, like I REALLY did not imagine until it happened that he would be capable of such manipulation. It made me love him even more. I also love how him and Nemesis interact; they are so similar and work so well together. They are the real power couple.

As for Sidonia, I didn’t really like her. She remained flat and relatively boring with no real story to her. I appreciated her love for Nemesis, and her treating her as a real human, but at times her love felt so superficial.

The plot and setting did have a really good sci-fi feel to it, and it was a super quick read. I would definitely recommend this book to you guys! Let me know down below if you have read Diabolic and what you thought of it.

Thanks for reading!

Taylor
