Hello everyone!
I have another spotlight post for yet another upcoming 2018 release! This book, Rule, by Ellen Goodlett won’t hit the shelves until September 11th, but nonetheless, I am highly anticipating this book. I was able to ask Ellen Goodlett some questions about this new fantastical adventure, and her answers have me even more excited!

Ellen’s Goodreads Bio:
Ellen Goodlett writes because otherwise she would spend her days plotting to take over the world. She figures that the former would benefit humanity ever so slightly more than the latter (which would be disastrous and involve a lot of cats in government positions). Her debut novel, RULE, about three girls competing for the throne in a fantasy world, will publish in fall 2018 with Little Brown.

Here are the questions:
1. How would you summarize Rule?
RULE is the story of three girls who learn they’re the daughters of the king — but each girl hides a deadly secret, and someone is threatening to expose them…
2. What was your inspiration for writing Rule?
I worked with a book packager, Alloy, who developed the initial concept of the story (three girls vying for the crown, and the fact that they’re each being blackmailed). But what drew me to the idea was the chance to write three very different girls, each of whom is strong in her own way, and to tell a story about how new friendships are forged, and what can break those bonds.
3. What can your readers expect in this new book?
Lots of secrets, twists and turns – plus high fantasy and higher stakes.
4. Who was your favorite character to write and why? Was there a least favorite?
This question is so hard! Zofi was probably the voice that came to me first, and the easiest to write. But I loved figuring out Akeylah, who was quieter and harder to pinpoint, and Ren was just a lot of fun to toy with. No least favorite, either – I enjoyed writing them all, even the villains. (Maybe especially those…).
5. Are there any books or movies you would compare to Rule?
We pitched the book as Pretty Little Liars meets Three Dark Crowns, but I’d say there’s definitely a touch of Reign thrown in there too!
6. What is your favorite book/genre to read?
Science fiction is my first love, but fantasy is a very close second. I also really enjoy reading memoir and creative nonfiction, and pretty much anything young adult. A little bit of everything, I guess!
7. Is there anything else about the book or yourself that you would like my readers to know? (optional)
I apologize in advance for the ending. 🙂
So, there you have an inside look into Ellen Goodlett’s September release, Rule! I am so excited for this debut novel. (I am trash for Pretty Little Liars and Reign, so this is exactly what I want.)
Do you plan to read
Rule? Will you be pre-ordering it (which you can do

Thanks for reading!
